I am an average guy that wants to do something more than average. I am a business professional during the day, but I want to do something that truly makes a difference in my life over the long haul and hopefully help others as well.
At first glance cycling might seem like an odd choice or topic to discuss. If you have ever tried to cycle for any length of time or for an extended distance you quickly have a new found respect for famous cyclist such as Lance Armstrong. While most people can never likely achieve his level of success, that really doesn't matter. What does matter is that we all achieve what we are capable of.
Health is probably the number one currency for human beings. Without it, we don't have much. So, as a 40 something business guy I want to really plug in and make an investment in my long term health. According to the standardized measure I am about 18 pounds over weight based on my height. That really doesn't mean much to me, but I definitely feel that I could lose a few pounds and I know there are clear and definite health benefits to being more fit. Not only do I want to live longer, I want to live with more vitality and to just feel stronger and healthier.
I am the type of person that needs a goal. If I have a goal I will dig in and do everything that it takes to achieve it. I am hopeful that I can apply the same level of intensity for cycling and long-term health that I have historically applied to my professional life.
So, why am I doing this? I want to expand my life to include clear goals for being healthier, stronger and more fit. I plan on journaling my story on this blog and I will share all of the ups and downs as well as the information that I learn about during this journey.
I am writing this at 11:30 pm and tomorrow morning (Thanksgiving Day) I plan on stepping on my bathroom scale to record my weight as well as my eating and training actions for the day.
